A first floor addition to a semi-detached dwelling was designed to accommodate the need for additional space and natural light. The ground level footprint was retained and reconfigured with a master bedroom retreat and study provided upstairs. Existing bricks were recycled and reused on site, rainwater storage located under the rear deck.
The challenge of this project was in designing a contemporary addition to meet council's restrictive heritage controls. This was achieved by concealing a timber-clad box behind the main roof so that the dwelling still reads at its original scale when viewed from its street context.
