Set within a conservation area, this Victorian terrace presented a series of design challenges arising from its dilapidated condition and prominent elevated position at the end of a row of six dwellings overlooking a local pocket park. The original two-room structure at the street frontage was retained and stabilised, while a new two-storey pavilion was introduced to the rear, consolidating the primary living spaces with new amenities and two additional bedrooms above.
At ground level, establishing a stronger connection to the compact private courtyard was central to the brief, creating a warm brick-lined outdoor space that extends naturally from the interior. Views across the surrounding parklands are carefully framed through a series of reading nooks and a small balcony positioned along the upper-level breezeway, enhancing the relationship to the leafy surrounds while drawing abundant natural light deep into the home.
